From the Keyboard of Dead Man - With so many collaborative efforts recently, I think it's fair to call this the Summer of Love on Art of the Mix. I couldn't resist jumping on the bandwagon so I asked seasoned alternator sammyg123 if he'd like to put an alternating DJ mix together.

Neither of us set any rules--Sam and I took turns making selections and sending them to one another. I usually impose all sorts of constraints on my mixes so it was cool to just go with the flow. I'd like to say that I just chose the first thing that popped into my head, but sometimes I had to think about it for a while. Anyway, here it is. I chose the odds and sammyg123 did the evens.

The mix name 'Funk for Days' is of course taken from the title track, but also refers to the - ahem - sedate pace at which this was put together. Techy troubles and moving of houses (both my end unfortunately) caused a few delays - we began this many moons ago. Nevertheless, it was hugely enjoyable having Sam-sent tracks popping into my inbox, and between us I think we've done rather well.

When sammyg123 and avocado rabbit made their first mix together, the finished product was woefully lacking in the affirmative action, equal opportunity department. It was too damn white, we said. So the two intrepid mixers agreed to do a follow-up mix with songs that would probably be classified as rhythm and blues, a category near and dear to my heart.

Of course, just because a song has soul doesn’t mean it has to be sung by black singers just as the President of the United States doesn’t necessarily have to be a white person, so I slipped in tunes by Todd Rundgren (a cover) and The Righteous Brothers.
