A celebration of the finest music to emerge from the city of Liverpool UK. The city that brought us The Beatles: for that alone we should all be thankful. Since the 60’s Merseybeat era it has been apparent that bands from Liverpool can’t half knock out a decent tune. Hopefully this mix contains some of the best.

Alas, in order to keep this mix under 80 minutes some bands didn’t make it, so a quick nod to FGTH, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Space, The Real People, The Christians and, erm A Flock Of Seagulls.

This here mix gathers together EVERY track I have ever attempted to sing in a Karaoke bar. No ommisions, they're all here!

1) My first attempt at Karaoke, certainly in public was performing this, about 13 years ago. I rocked!

3) This one's my most frequent choice. I'm not a huge 'Lee Roth' fan, but after a few drinks I seem to feel the need to belt this one out.

5) My only attempt at 'Doing a crooner'. It will be my last for a certain amount of time. Mark my words.

6) I couldn't reach the high notes.

7) I couldn't reach the low notes.

11) Carried this one off quite well surprisingly. I could barely stand at the time if I remember!

12) & 13) Even a 5 year old could tell you performing these is inadvisable.

15) Aah, now I enjoyed singing this one. I was at a works leaving do. Even the blank expressions on the faces of the under twentys in the bar wasn't gonna put me off.

16) Horrific. My worst ever. I died on my arse, really and truly. Walking off the stage to a ripple of polite applause was absolutely soul destroying. 'I Will Survive' I thought to myself. That's what I'll do next time.

The final track was my most recent attempt, about a month ago. My fiance, Vicki chirped 'Let's Do Summer Lovin', she always gets song titles wrong. 'Absolutely Not' was my immediate reply. She put our name down behind my back anyway. My heart sank as our names were called out. We were terrible, the crowd loved us!

So, there we have it. I'm already thinking of my next time on the stage and which song to sing. Now, what's that nice Enrique song about being a hero.....

NB - This mix was submitted on Feb 15th 2006. I've not sang a karaoke song since...

Compiling this mix was a major ballache! Halfway through i was about to give in, but thankfully i persevered. Whilst planning a guilty pleasures mix I decided to check if anyone had used my Go Go's choice on a mix before. As it happened no one had, so my thoughts veered off into a different direction...

I decided to compile a mix consisting of songs never before used by a mixer on AOTM. 2 Rules.. 1) I had to own the track, obviously & 2) I couldn't just include any old rubbish. This mix had to be great goddamit.

So, I started trawling through my record collection. I hit many a brick wall... 60s rarities ( Moe, McDonald12), 80s/90s Indie ( p the swede ), general oddities ( Curtis_Burns). But slowly, very slowly infact, things started falling into place. The end result is one i'm very happy with. This should be lame, but it isn't in the slightest ( anyone wanting a copy, just drop me a line ). Oh, and one more thing, before anyone grumbles.. the Cilla Black track is a terrific Pop Song. It really is!

2) Which artist on this mix has a place on the cover of ‘Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’?

3) What connects tracks 1, 11 & 20?

4) Which singer spurned credibility by ( after much soul searching ) electing NOT to record ‘Whole Wide World’ on the grounds that Eric stubbornly refused to let him change the lyrics ‘caressing her warm brown skin’?

5) What connects tracks 3, 8 & 14?

  18. Labi Siffre - It Must Be Love ( cov. Madness )
  19. Billy Bragg - A New England ( cov. Kirsty MacColl )
  20. Left Banke - Walk Away Renee ( cov. The Four Tops )
  21. U2 - One ( cov. Johnny Cash )

This mix contains 21 originals that at some point I think were bettered. The artist who provided the definitive version is listed in brackets. Of course this means there is an alternative mix to this I should enjoy more.

Originally made Jan 2006. I don't agree with a couple of these anymore. 5,7 & 12 in particular. But this was the way I was thinking back then - tastes change..
